If you're getting rid of Windows 8, and solely installing 7, then you must first delete all the partitions on your hard drive, including any recovery partitions, so the installer can redo the partition table as MBR instead of GPT.

Change the BCDedit configuration to allow dual boot between your current Windows 8 install, and the new Windows 7 VHD file this is not virtualisation, its native boot using all the hardware directly.
